Bone marrow have vital role in production of blood cells, this process called hematopoiesis
Hematopoiesis:
Is the process of blood production ( red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets)
Where hematopoiesis Happen?
In adult: hematopoiesis (blood production ) happen in bone marrow so its called medullary .hematopoiesis
In Infants: hematopoiesis happen in liver and spleen soits called extra medullary hematopoiesis.
NB: Some adult who's bone marrow fibrosed or destroyed , used liver and spleen for hematopoiesis
Bone marrow productions:
1-%75 of marrow cells producing white blood cells because the short life span of it ( few hours to days)
2-%25 of marrow cells producing red blood cells because the long life span of it ( 120 days)
-In children:
The marrow in all bones are active so its called red marrow , which lead to rising the blood volume of children more adult.
-In adult:
Red marrow reduced to present only on the flat bones and upper ends of long bones ,but the cavities of long bones ( femur, hum and urus) are infiltrated with fats to be inactive so its called yellow or fatty marrow.
